You’re probably thinking “erm, you’re crazy” considering I’m a brand strategist and branding coach for female entrepreneurs – but hear me out – most of what gets called ‘branding’ was never built for a woman like you, or me. It wants you loud, placed in a box and fuelled by the ego...a persona of you that can be sold.
Most conventional branding advice was built from the outside in: figure out the market you can mould yourself into, then perform whatever gets you seen in that market. When I say I was tired of this narrative, I really do mean TIRED – so I decided to redefine what branding can be for sensitive, intuitive, creative, soul-led women...
You didn’t start this journey to become a product.
Somewhere along the way, the advice of ‘build a brand’ you’re repeatedly sold online started to feel like selling yourself + your soul off in pieces, packaging yourself up into a pigeonhole niche, and performing for the sake of a manufactured algorithm that dictates who gets to see your work.
You have too many gifts and interests to stuff yourself inside that pigeonhole, too much depth to reduce yourself down to what the algorithm demands from you. And on some days, you’d rather just live, be present and create – your work, your offers, your art, the thing that means so much to you – rather than spend hours trying to create a ‘personal brand’.
Your resistance and reluctance isn’t a flaw – it’s a sign you’ve been fed the archaic, conventional definition of branding (and let’s be honest, you’re far from conventional, am I right?!), a structure that wasn’t made for a woman like you.
An InnerWorld Brand isn’t a mask.
It’s a portal.
InnerWorld Branding is built upon one reframe – a brand isn’t something you perform, it’s something you express through. It’s a portal for your gifts to move from your InnerWorld into the outer world, exactly as they are, without contorting yourself into a counterfeit persona. It’s how you want the people who get you to feel when they close their eyes and think of you.
IWB also redefines marketing. Here, it’s reframed as a form of creation – creative expression of the self and your InnerWorld Brand (rather than a form of manipulation!!). It’s how your InnerWorld chooses to show up in the outer one.
When you stop perceiving branding and marketing as you being forced to mutate into a commodified character, and instead treat it as an act of discovery, play, expression and creation, the whole experience stops feeling like signing your soul away!
Branding is actually kinda cool and exciting when you retrain your brain to see it this way – think about it, you’re channeling your interests, your personality, and your work through your brand all whilst being unapologetically yourself, and the right people (your Kindred Audience™) will connect with who that is + see themselves in you! How cool is that?
And because you’re not static, your InnerWorld Brand isn’t either. It’s not a prision cell you get locked up in the day you start sharing it with the world, it can grow the way you grow – through the different offers, redirections, rebuilds – the seasons where your work looks completely different than it did 12 months prior.
Your Kindred Audience™ aren’t buying only what you offer, they’re subscribing to you – the human the InnerWorld Brand is anchored in. This means whatever you create next will always make sense, because it will always be born from your InnerWorld, and that’s what your people are there for.
